200th Anniversary

C&F’s journey is characterized by innovation, perseverance and commitment to people.

Since 1822, when Captain Richard Whiley formed what is now the foundation of Crum & Forster – The North River Insurance Company – to insure buildings in New York City, C&F has enjoyed a long history of providing innovative risk and insurance products and solutions, building and maintaining scores of lasting partnerships and creating an enduring legacy of corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Since the very beginning, our mission has been to provide best-in-class products and services for our broker and producer partners – to deliver solutions for their changing business needs and to serve the communities in which we live and work.

“Success in business only comes with the ability to transform and innovate,” said Mark Adee, C&F’s CEO. “As an early innovator, C&F was among the first wave of insurers to offer workers’ compensation coverage, excess and surplus insurance (E&S), as well as packaged and multi-line products. Today’s C&F, consists of a strong team of problem solvers who have developed and service a broad range of specialty insurance products spanning Property & Casualty, Accident & Health, and Credit & Surety.  We are proud of our heritage and thank you for taking this journey with us.”
